There are just some things men wear that drive me crazy. Individual style is a form of self-expression — but it is a good idea for guys of all ages to know about the top men’s fashion mistakes, in order to avoid perpetuating them. Around the world, “understated” sophistication is something that never fades from existence in the realm of men’s fashion. If a man is tall, short, large or small — clothing should flatter his body at all times. Accentuate the positive by staying away from apparel, that seemingly swallows the body or strangles it in appearance. By avoiding this particular fashion mistake, you are making strides toward achieving a timeless style all your own.

Check out our list of the top men’s fashion mistakes to avoid:

Socks with Sandals. It is completely understandable that when the weather feels chilly outside, we all want to slip on a pair of cozy socks to maintain a degree of warmth. But why pair the socks with summer sandals? During the months of fall and winter, it’s the equivalent of wearing shorts with a wool coat. The two articles of clothing simply do not go together in terms of season or style. Instead of rocking socks with sandals, when the temperature outside is a bit nippy — opt for wearing comfortable closed toe shoes.

Shiny Apparel. As a woman, I can attest to the fact that 99% of the time, we do not like our men to wear shiny shirts, suits or any form of clothing within that realm of fashion. If you are going out for an evening on the town, an excessively flashy article of clothing is never a good look for a grown man. All things considered, unless you are a pop icon or rock star, sporting shiny apparel looks too flamboyant for the vast majority of men.

Bold Designer Labels. Nobody wants to look like a billboard, so it is a good idea to stick to fashion items that are timeless in style. For a man who desires to wear designer pieces that display a signature logo, the look should appear subtle in form.

Tight Shirts. Regardless of a man’s body type, an extremely tight shirt can never come off as smart and sophisticated. Unless you really want to look like a Chippendale’s dancer in public, leave that tight shirt in the department store where it belongs. A good rule of thumb for clothing: the tailored look is nice, tight not so much.

Baggy Jeans. In the 90s, the baggy jeans trend was popularized by hip hop and alternative artists — ultimately mainstream society also embraced the fashion statement. In the year 2010 — within the minds of countless people of all ages and genders — the appearance of saggy jeans is maddening to say the least. Why is this one of the top men’s fashion mistakes? Although the style is definitely comfortable for those who choose to wear it — the look is entirely too sloppy for other individuals to take him seriously, when he is out and about in the real world.

White Running Shoes. Of course, white athletic shoes are ideal for physical activities and trips to the grocery store with the kids. Avoid wearing them to nice restaurants, clubs or anywhere outside of completely casual activities. If you are planning a vacation to Europe or any destination around the globe — definitely leave the clunky white Nikes here in the States. Although they are a comfy form of footwear, they scream “I’m a tourist from America.” As a woman, I know that a man’s footwear is something females routinely notice. It does not matter if the woman is your wife or your girlfriend. Outside of the gym, dress to impress by sporting footwear that is comfortable, versatile and stylish, that will complement pieces within a classic wardrobe.
